Mountain Overlay revision close to P&Z approval

By KATHERINE WUTZ
Express Staff Writer

The Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday voted to approve a draft ordinance designed to make it easier for Blaine County landowners to appeal their property's inclusion in the Mountain Overlay District.

The Mountain Overlay District Modification Ordinance outlines the criteria that property must meet to be considered for exclusion. The new criteria allow for exclusion based on mistakes in the original zoning, the property's accessibility, whether infrastructure could be easily extended to reach the property and if the area in question is not in a flood or avalanche hazard area.

The ordinance would not modify any existing boundaries of the zone, and still must undergo revisions before final approval.

After the P&Z has approved a final version of the ordinance, with directed changes made by the planning staff, it will be sent to the County Commission for review.

The Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission will review the ordinance's final language at its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Blaine County Courthouse.
