Police in California have reported that a former Ketchum resident was arrested earlier this month for allegedly robbing three banks in the greater San Jose area in June.
A news release from the Santa Cruz Police Department states that Kent Lee Maxon, 44, was arrested at his home in Santa Cruz on July 1 in a joint investigation that also involved the San Jose Police Department and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
Maxon allegedly robbed a Bank of the West branch in San Jose on June 19, the Comerica Bank in Saratoga on June 22 and the Comerica Bank in Santa Cruz on June 28.
Police reported that in each of the robberies, a man showed a teller a note demanding money, was given undisclosed amounts of cash and fled on a bicycle. Police reported that the suspect showed a gun in at least one of the robberies.
Santa Cruz police reported that Maxon was identified as the suspect in all three robberies by video camera surveillance.
The news release further states that a large illegal marijuana-growing operation was found in Maxon's home at the time of his arrest.
"Information obtained in the investigation suggests that Maxon was financing the indoor grow equipment with money from the robberies," the news release states.
Police further reported that Maxon had been convicted of armed robbery in Santa Cruz County in 1992.
