A Celebration of Mountain Life is a fundraising event to celebrate living in Sun Valley and the men and women who keep everyone safe. Sun Valley Co. and the Sun Valley Ski Patrol have organized a family-fun event with demonstrations, live music, a raffle and a silent auction scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, from noon to 9 p.m. at River Run Lodge.
"It's a celebration for mountain life community," said event organizer Julie Gallagher. "This is for us—the people who live here."
Gallagher said the benefit is an opportunity for the community to acknowledge and thank all the first responders who keep residents and visitors safe.
Emergency rescue equipment will be demonstrated from noon to 4 p.m. From 5-9 p.m., Disciples of Rock, Kole Moulton and the Lonely Road and headliner Dave Mason will perform at River Run. Sun Valley Co. will have a no-host bar and barbecue for purchase all day and attendees can bring their own picnic.
"We will have 12 to 14 demos of equipment for people to know more about what is available," Gallagher said. "It's an unusual collaboration and a rare opportunity to work with Sun Valley Co. and Sun Valley Ski Patrol to produce an event for the entire community."
A raffle for two ski passes, a silent auction and sale of Sun Valley Ski Patrol T-shirts will be available as well. The day will include fun activities for kids such as face painting and hula hooping. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $5 for kids under 12. Tickets are on sale at Ketchum and Hailey Atkinsons' markets. Proceeds from the event will benefit the family of Tim Michael, who died in an avalanche on Bald Mountain this winter.
"We want to honor people who are behind the scenes," Gallagher said. "The Sun Valley Co. is doing something unprecedented and hopes to continue the event every year."
