Bridget Hope Gilmour

On Thursday, June 24, Bridget Hope Gilmour peacefully continued on her journey, beyond this earth. Bridget was born in Uxbridge, England, on Dec. 31, 1945, where she later attended nursing and secretarial school. She moved to New York City when she was 20 years old. There, she began her beloved career in childcare. Education was of high importance to her and she had a hand in the early education of many lucky children. Bridget had a strong connection with children and spread her compassion, expertise and humor throughout the Wood River Valley while caring for local families' children. She met her husband, Michael Alcid, on the Limelight chairlift and they were married for 32 years—a true Sun Valley love story. Bridget loved gardening, English crumpets, running and hiking in the mountains, and especially her family. Her dedication to her daughters and husband was without limit. Bridget's essence and strong interest in serving others lives on in her daughters, Annie and Sara Alcid.

Bridget found great joy in the little things in life—the beauty of a bird, a hug from a loved one, the laugh of a child, a new flower bloom. She loved exploring her spirituality and espoused kindness, optimism and global citizenship.

She will be missed dearly, but her family and friends take solace in knowing they will spend many more lifetimes with her.

In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden on Thursday, July 1, at 6 p.m. Please bring your favorite hors d'œuvre or beverage to enjoy after the ceremony. Due to limited parking, please try to carpool if possible. Donations can be made in Bridget's name at Mountain West Bank in Hailey to benefit her favorite organization, the Somaly Mam Foundation, committed to helping the survivors of sexual slavery and ending human trafficking.
