People and Places


Kathleen Mary Diepenbrock of Hailey was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Prescott College in Arizona on May 22. The college's community-based master's program allows students to continue to live and work in their home communities with the guidance of local advisors and mentors while completing their degree.

Among the Virginia Tech students earning Dean's List recognition for the spring 2010 semester was Adriana R. Maniere of Sun Valley. She is a junior majoring in Theater Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at the Blacksburg, Va., school.

Danielle E. Smith of Sun Valley has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester at the University of Vermont. Wood River High School graduate Smith is a senior Biological Science major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. To be named to the Dean's Lists, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class.

Western Washington University student Bryce Moulton, son of Mark and Janice Moulton of Hailey, received a $500 Mount Baker Plywood Furniture Scholarship for the 2010-11 year. The Mount Baker Plywood Furniture Contest Scholarship is awarded to the top student designs and construction of unique furniture solutions for storage.

Moulton, a junior at WWU, has earned a 3.73 GPA. He is planning to graduate in spring 2012 with a degree in Industrial Design. Moulton has participated in Students for Renewable Energy and his professional goals include working with sustainable design.

Nick Kavanagh, a 2009 Wood River High School graduate, has been named to the Dean's List in the College of Arts and Sciences for the spring 2010 semester at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kavanagh of Ketchum.

Three local students graduated recently from the Verde Valley International School at Sedona, Ariz. They were Jasmine Campbell (going to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. next year), Sara Jane Slater (The American School in Paris) and Ali Maricich (Cornish in Seattle). All three girls achieved Dean's Highest Honors at Verde Valley.

Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., has named Hannah Emmanuella Odio from Bellevue to the Dean's List for academic achievement during the 2010 spring semester. Odio, a member of the class of 2013, majors in Communication Studies.

Kenneth A. Mauro of Hailey has graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.

A record 4,496 men and women were recognized as graduates from Oregon State University in OSU's 141st commencement ceremony June 12, including:

Marne R. Elmore of Bellevue, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Magna Cum Laude, Applied Visual Arts; and Katie Hayes of Hailey, Bachelor of Science, Animal Sciences.

Scott Krankkala, son of Todd and Nancie Krankkala of Hailey, made the Dean's List at Western State College of Colorado for the spring semester 2010. He will be starting his junior year and is studying biology/chemistry. Scott graduated from Hailey's Wood River High School in 2007.

More than 3,000 students graduated from Tufts University in Massachusetts May 23. The graduates from the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering included Sigrid Fostvedt of Ketchum, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, Summa Cum Laude.

Patrick McMahon of Sun Valley has been named to the College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's List for the 2009-10 second semester at Loyola University of Chicago in Illinois.

Among the Montana State University Dean's Honor Roll students for the 2009-10 spring term were Alexander Henning of Hailey, a 2009 Wood River High School graduate, and Kira Gardner of Sun Valley, a 2007 WRHS graduate. Andrew Olson of Hill City was also on the Honor Roll list.

Making the Dean's Honor Roll at the University of Mississippi for the spring 2010 semester was Louisa Morrison Waycott of Ketchum.
