Members tee it up for two days of tournament golf

At The Valley Club

Overall men's and women's champions of The Valley Club's Member-Member golf tournament last weekend were the teams of Jack Dies and Baird Gourlay, and Kristen O'Reilly and Laurrine McGowan.

In all, 42 two-person teams competed in six flights using a better-ball format for Friday's round and a Chicago points format Saturday. In the men's division the five flight winners and runner-ups engaged in a five-hole shootout with an alternate shot format. It eliminated teams each hole to crown the Last Standing Team.

That team was Dies and Gourlay over the runner-up team of Jerry Mells and Dave Berman. The "Show" team for third place featured Edward Karner and Latham Williams.

Winning the Annie Oakley Flight were overall women's titlists Kristen O'Reilly and Laurrine McGowan ahead of runner-up golfers Happy Hawn and Suzanne Williams.

For their accomplishments, the winners and runner-up teams received framed watercolors of the West Nine seventh hole.

During the Member/Member tournament, Adam Elias provided a highlight when he notched his first-ever hole-in-one. He aced the seventh hole of the West Nine from 142 yards, using a 9-iron.

Elias' memorable shot came during the Friday better-ball format first round, in front of witnesses Buzz Griffin, Phil O'Reilly and John Martinson. It was also the first ace of the season at The Valley Club.
