Harold Russell Beemer

Harold Beemer passed away peacefully on June 6, 2010, in Novato, Calif., with his daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Crosser and Barbara (Rich Bingham) Tropea at his side.

He was born in Marengo, Iowa, on Oct. 17, 1915 to Edith and John Beemer. He had three older sisters, Alta Hanes, Lois Beemer and Margaret Jean Charnholm, who preceded him in death. He attended the University of Minnesota where he received his degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation from college, he moved to California where he went to work for Douglas Aircraft Co. He worked on the early moon missions and the manned orbital space laboratory, and later he and his wife Betty (Weber) spent two years in Torino, Italy.

When he returned to California, he met and married Leigh Hinds. They lived in Sun Valley where he enjoyed and loved her children and family.

He had many hobbies, golf being a particular passion of his. He and many of his friends did semi-annual trips to Scotland to golf the "old course" and enjoy the people and golf where it originated. He combined his love of travel and cooking when he lived in Paris and attended La Varenne cooking school. He was also a wonderful artist and gardener.

He is survived by his two daughters, nieces, a nephew, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was a small private service held at Pacific View Cemetery in Corona Del Mar, Calif., where he was buried. He was a kind and loving man and will be greatly missed.
