Wranglers look to lasso wins in Nampa

Father’s Day tournament


Given the week the Wood River Wranglers have had a change of scenery can't hurt.

Matt Nelson's nine will compete in the Wingers Father's Day Classic in Nampa through Sunday.

The eight-team tournament kicked off Thursday with Wood River meeting LaGrande, Oregon. Also part of Pool B is Canyon and Eagle. Nampa, Upper Valley, Kuna and Snake River make up the Pool A. Each team is guaranteed four games with the championship set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Home to Blackfoot on Wednesday, Wood River (3-11) dropped the opening game 15-4 and the nightcap 12-2. On the day, Zach Israel was 4-for-6 with a pair of runs. Jimmy Hague knocked twice in the second contest.

At Twin Falls Tuesday, the Wranglers fell 6-4 and 19-2. Nic Brunker had some big at-bats in the opening game with a 2RBI triple in the fourth and 2 RBI double in the sixth. Both times Brunker brought around Alex Thomas (2-for-3), and Braxton Parrish (2-for-2, double).

Trailing 4-3, the Cowboys scored three runs in the home sixth to take the win, despite getting outhit 7-3.
