New Heritage Court is crowned
For the past seven years, the Blaine County Museum has hosted a Heritage Court Coronation and Reception honoring Blaine County resident ladies who have participated in, contributed to or striven to preserve the history and heritage of the Wood River Valley. Sunday was no exception as supporters, friends and families packed the Liberty Theatre in Hailey to honor this year’s class of gals. Master of Ceremonies Ed Simon quizzed Bellevue’s representative, “Lady” Phyllis Stelma about life, values and memories past, above. Bellevue Councilwoman Tammy Schofield escorted Stelma. “I was honored to be able to stand in for Mayor Jon Anderson and represent Phyllis,” Schofield said. “Whenever something needed to be done, Phyllis never hesitated to volunteer.” Right, “Lady” Fern Stephenson, center, of Hailey, was escorted by Mayor Rick Davis and was handed flowers by Heritage Court Committee member Teddie Daley, left, and helped with her tiara by volunteer Marilyn Shilue. Part of the entertainment was 8-year-old Gracie Doyle, of Bellevue, below. She wrote the music and the lyrics to and sang her song “Doesn’t Seem So.” The attentive and supportive crowd applauded enthusiastically and wondered if they were clapping for the next Taylor Swift.
