In a special meeting Wednesday, June 9, the Blaine County School District board of trustees expelled one more student, bringing to six the number kicked out of school during the 2009-10 school year.
"We had three students up for expulsion hearings," Board Chair Julie Dahlgren said Thursday. "Out of three, one was expelled, two were not."
The Idaho Mountain Express reported in its May 26 edition that only five students had been expelled for the school year. The Express was not aware then that additional expulsion hearings would be held in June.
The number of expulsions was still down for the year. There were 11 expulsions last year in the district and expulsions have averaged about 10 per year over the last five years.
Both the students' names and the reasons for expulsion are kept confidential. The most common reason that students are expelled is for drug or alcohol abuse.
Dahlgren said no other expulsion hearings are anticipated for the year.
