The recent WREP meeting on the proposed new market and zoning change was mischaracterized in a story in the June 11 issue. Tempers were not raging. Doug Brown calmly ran a fair meeting; no one shouted. This issue may heat up but from start to finish I found the gathering to be cool headed and cordial. (Was there a riot afterward?) WREP members not so subtly foisted their agenda, but they also gave fairly equal time around the room. In getting some facts out and possible battle lines drawn, the get-together was a complete success.
WREP is to be commended for being proactive, as are the folks who offered information and opinions. Mountain Express coverage was misleading, even a little shrill. There are some good people on the various aspects of the case, and it's going to be interesting, but there's no melodrama just yet.
