In the market for some all-important momentum, the Wood River American Legion baseball team is seeking a pair of wins against Blackfoot this afternoon at Founder's Field.
Coming off a 1-3 mark against Buhl and Bonneville, coach Matt Nelson is looking for his team to tighten up the flaps, issuing fewer walks, committing fewer errors and quit spotting opponents runs.
In double-header play against Bonneville Friday in Hailey, the Wranglers gave up four runs in the first inning of both games. Hailey lost the opener 7-5, but rallied for five runs to take the nightcap 8-5. Juan Martinez picked up the win on the mound.
Wood River led Buhl 11-4 in the nightcap on Monday, but surrendered nine runs in the fifth in an 18-11 loss. The Tribe also claimed the opener 16-3.
Alex Padilla was 6-for-8 and Jimmy Hague 4-for-7 in both games. Martinez sliced his hand (3 stitches) on a chain link fence and will likely be out for a couple of days, according to Nelson.
The Wranglers (3-7) take on Blackfoot today at 12 and 2 p.m. at Founder's Field.
