Dolly, Jane and Lily aren’t the only ones working 9 to 5

Local riders punch the clock

Local mountain bikers spent their Saturday working around the clock in the Knobby Tire Series 9 to 5 Ultra Endurance bike race off of state Highway 55 near Boise.

The event featured nine-mile loop of high-speed rolling double-track with tight, technical single-track, steep drops and water crossings, billed as "single-speeders dream (if you like to punish yourself with nasty climbs that is)."

Individual racers and two-person teams tried to complete as many laps as possible in the allotted eight hours. Three local men rode in the single speed class with Sean McLaughlin finishing nine laps to take second in his division and fourth overall. Mike Shane was third in his class, bagging a custom-made pendant for his 8-lap effort. Mike Herlinger (8 laps) was sixth.

Marc Driver and India Wysong won the coed class, completing nine laps. John Tormey and Muffy Ritz also completed nine in a third-place effort.

Mia James and Sara Schroeder teamed to take second in the women's division. Chris Gardner and Keith Bryant finished 10 laps to place second to Jay Petervary and Michael Piker, who finished the most laps overall with 11.

Next up on the Knobby Tire Series/Broken Spoke Cycling calendar is the Soldier Mountain cross-country race on Saturday, June 19. Course distances range from 10 to 23 miles. Registration is from 9-10 a.m. Racing starts at 10:30 a.m.
