Several former feral kittens found in the Elkhorn foothills last month are ready for adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley.
One had already found a home by Monday. Three were at the Hailey-area shelter awaiting someone to take them home and two others remained in foster care for further socialization with people.
Shelter Manager Robin Potts said the two in foster care are progressing nicely, if not as quickly as the other four, and should be at the shelter and ready for a new home within the next week.
The six kittens were found on May 12 on the porch of a home in the Camas Loop area. Sun Valley Police were notified and the kittens, which were then described as "hissy," were placed in a box and taken to the shelter. They became shelter property after five business days when no one claimed them.
Potts said attempts to find the mother, who likely remains in the foothills area, have not been successful.
"We'll probably find her when she has another litter," Potts said.
The kittens are now about 2 months old. The ones ready for adoption have been spayed or neutered. Name tags on their holding pen state that their names are Tess, Billy and Dolly.
