Little League All-Stars second at Hagerman

Last weekend, the 10-year-old Wood River Green All-Stars took second place in the Snake River Shootout youth baseball tournament at Hagerman.

Green beat out Meridian, East Boise and Rupert to advance to the championship game against the Twin Falls Pioneers. Twin Falls prevailed 8-4 in the final game. There were two other teams from Wood River in the tournament, but neither was able to place.

On the Green team coached by Matt Buxton and Charlie Dunn were Burrell Jones, Wyatt Parish, Ike Buxton, Christian Hovey, Colby Whitehead, Wilson Dunn, Elliott Portillo, Tiernan Naghsh, Kyle Nelson and Jett Erickson.

Cops, firemen play ball for fun Saturday

It's all for fun Saturday, June 12 when local policemen take the diamond against local firemen at Hailey's Nelson Field in the "Guns vs. Hoses Softball Challenge."

The slow-pitch softball game begins Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission is $1. The barbecue costs $5 per person.

Proceeds benefit Blaine County First Responders.

Youth hockey gives scholarships to two seniors

Community School graduating senior Nellie Brown and Wood River High School graduating senior Niels McMahon are the two recipients of the Sun Valley Youth Hockey scholarships for 2010. Brown and McMahon will each receive $250 grants. Recipients must have a minimum of eight years playing with SVYH and grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. They also must have coaches' recommendations.

Adams Gulch 4.2-mile run Saturday

The Elephant's Perch of Ketchum is sponsoring the 33rd annual Adams Gulch 4.2-mile fun run on Saturday, June 12 starting at 10 a.m. from the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood/Guy Coles Park area at Warm Springs and Saddle roads in Ketchum. There is no entry fee, no pre-registration and no prizes, but finishing times will be recorded. There will be light refreshments. Last year there were 56 runners led by Colin Rodgers, 28, in 26:08 and Alexa Turzian, 20, 30:44.

Sawtooth Relay returns to Atkinson Park Saturday

As of Monday, there were 322 teams and individuals registered for the 19th annual Sawtooth Relay scheduled for Saturday, June 12 along a scenic 61.9-mile route from Stanley to Atkinson Park in Ketchum. Six team members run 12 legs over the distance, starting anytime between midnight and 9 a.m. from Stanley and finishing between noon and 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ketchum park.

Ski Club stages bicycle ride to Bellevue Tuesday, June 15

The Sun Valley Ski Club has planned its 2010 summer bicycle ride for Tuesday, June 15, weather permitting. Meeting at 10:15 a.m., the group will ride the bike path from the St. Luke's Hospital parking lot south of Ketchum, to Hailey and then via Broadford Road to Bellevue. There will be a no-host lunch at Mahoney's Bar & Grill in Bellevue and then the return ride along the bike path to Ketchum. Bring water and layered clothing. Reserve a space with Gretchen 622-3003.

Dollar Mountain 10k training runs Tuesdays in June

Hailey's Brad Mitchell, race director of the Dollar Mountain 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) Trail Run Saturday, June 26 in Sun Valley, has planned what he calls "no-drop" practice trail runs on the course Tuesday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 22. Sporting Clays Benefit Shoot is June 12 in Sun Valley

Sun Valley Gun Club (622-2111) stages a sporting clays benefit shoot for the Trailing of the Sheep Festival on Saturday, June 12. Registration is taken from 9 a.m. with shooting at 10 a.m. Cost of $60 includes 100 targets, prizes and the lamb barbecue. The event is open to all regardless of ability or experience. There will be extra games, cash and raffle prizes.

There will be a drawing for a Benelli Super Sport shotgun. A maximum 300 tickets will be sold for $20 each or six for $100. The shotgun retails for $2,100. Non-participants can enjoy the barbecue provided by Noh Sheep Company for $10 apiece.

Bronco coaches coming to Turf Club for benefit dinner

The Magic Valley Alumni Chapter of Boise State University invites all Bronco fans to dinner with football coaches Chris Petersen and Gordy Presnell and incoming BSU men's basketball coach Leon Rice. The fund-raising dinner complete with the Fiesta Bowl football trophy and comments from the coaches is Thursday, June 24 starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Turf Club in Twin Falls. Tickets ($35 or $40) must be purchased online by June 21 at alumni.boisestate.edu or by calling 208-426-1698. Proceeds support the Alumni Legacy Scholarship.
