The Sawtooth Rangers have been busy planning events to raise money for the Hailey Rodeo Park construction. The organization will host a Cowboy Entertainment and Open Expo on Saturday, June 5, with a barbecue cook-off from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Included in the day's event will be music by Saddle Strings and Ernie Sites. In addition, cowboy poets Sites, Stan Tixier, Robin Arnold, Sam DeLeeue, Brian Dilworth and Gordon Peterson will entertain throughout the day.

The barbecue cook-off requires a $25 entry fee for each category of lamb, beef, pork, poultry, vegetarian and Dutch oven varieties. Grand prize is a four-burner, charbroil stainless-steel gas grill donated by Lowe's Home Improvement. A vote for the People's Choice award is $5 and limited to 25 people. Admission to the benefit is $5 and children under 6 are free.

The event will include food concessions, a beer-and-wine garden and a raffle. Each entry ticket will include one raffle ticket, with six additional tickets available for $5.

"We have exciting events for the Sawtooth Rangers," said Special Event Coordinator Kelly Heuett. "We have never explored fundraising before and the rodeo gave us a reason."

A $3.5 million recreation bond measure passed by Hailey voters on May 25 will fund half the expected cost of the proposed new Hailey Rodeo Park. The remainder will have to come from private donations.

The Sawtooth Rangers will also host a Band Fest at the Hailey Rodeo Arena on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day will include a lineup of local bands as well as a special guest appearance by Muzzie Braun. Admission is $10 and children under 12 are $5. Lawn chairs will be allowed but coolers will not be. Food concessions and a beer-and-wine garden will be available.
