"I like revisiting songs that meant something to me at some point in my life, and I think they are songs people should know," said Caritas Chorale Director Dick Brown. "I try to keep them alive."
Caritas Chorale will close out its season with benefit performances on Saturday, June 5, and Sunday, June 6, with a show, "Songs My Mother Taught Me," at the Gail Severn Gallery in Ketchum. R.L. Rowsey will accompany the choir on piano. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will commence at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, available at the Gail Severn Galley.
Program highlights will include songs such as "Gentle Annie" by Stephen Collins Foster, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Dixie," "I'll Be Seeing You" by Sammy Fain, "At The River," adapted by Aaron Copland, and other sentimental and patriotic favorites.
"It's a nice thing to do in slack," Brown said. "The concert gets people to come out of their shells and hideaways to celebrate a return of warmth and have a lot of fun with food and music. The concert is early enough that people can dine after the show."
The Caritas Chorale will return to perform in the valley on Sunday, Sept.12, at Elkhorn Springs Restaurant in Sun Valley for a benefit show, "Astronomical." The show will include telescopes and a slideshow of the night sky. All the songs will focus on the stars and love.
"It's a challenge to constantly get better," Brown said. "We have a wide repertoire and sing with an orchestra as well as perform jazz and Broadway music. In this case, we will sing patriotic and folk songs. We try to keep a mix of things."
The 60-member choir that will perform Saturday and Sunday is a special performance because it is a mixing of music and art. Brown said Gail Severn is very generous in allowing Caritas Chorale to hold the concerts.
