Dr. Abraham Verghese Resurrects Bedside Manner



Courtesy photo Dr. Abraham Verghese is the author of “Cutting for Stone,” “My Own Country,” a National Book Critics Circle Award winner made into a motion picture, and “The Tennis Partner,” a New York Times Notable Book and best seller about his close friendship with a drug-addicted physician. Verghese is a patients’ advocate, having influenced modern medical students on what it means to be a doctor and to treat people. In addition, he has appeared on “60 Minutes” and talked on National Public Radio, as well as contributed to national magazines, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic and Sports Illustrated. Verghese will give a presentation, “The Machine Will See You Now: Touching Where It Hurts in a Technological Age,” on Saturday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Admission to his presentation is included with all platinum, gold and silver passes. Individual tickets are $20.
