Silver Creek High School seniors will receive Idaho State High School diplomas at a ceremony Tuesday, June 1 at 11 a.m. in The Community Campus auditorium, Hailey.
Friends of the school and members of the community are welcome to watch the eight seniors accept their diplomas. Scholarships will be presented. A reception will follow in the Community Campus Minnie Moore room.
Commencement speaker at the school's 17th graduation is Judge Sergio A. Gutierrez, a resident of Canyon County where he has lived since 1976.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Boise State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings Law School. Judge Gutierrez practiced law in southwest Idaho until 1993, when he was appointed to the District Court. In 2002 he was appointed to the Idaho Court of Appeals.
He has served on the Governor's Criminal Justice Commission and on the Governor's Coordinating Council for Families and Children. He currently is a member of the Governor's Idaho Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Judge Gutierrez frequently volunteers his services to communities statewide, including taking time to visit area schools and other youth organizations.
