Gonzalo Veloso, 56, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 7 p.m. Gonzalo had happy memories of his childhood in Santiago, Chile, where he was born Nov. 16, 1953.
Gonzalo attended the University of San Francisco where he earned a master's degree in international business in 1986. Gonzalo moved to Seattle where he met and fell in love with his wife, Maxine. They moved to Cordova, Alaska, where they were married in 1988. While in Alaska, he enjoyed being in the commercial fishing business.
They moved to Ketchum, Idaho, in 1989, where he started a furniture business, Portillo's which featured imported furniture from Chile. He enjoyed skiing, kayaking and hiking in Idaho. His love for diving took him all over the world.
Gonzalo is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maxine Veloso; his stepson, John Harbeck; his brother, Keno Veloso, and sisters, MarySol and Carmen Veloso, all from Chile; and his sister-in-law, Marlene Rinerson, and brother in-law, Partick Delvaux.
Gonzalo was known for his love of adventure. His family and friends know he is now on another journey with his beloved dog, Dakota, at his side.
