Allred to appear in Ketchum

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keith Allred will be at the Roosevelt Grille in Ketchum for a luncheon on Friday, May 21.

A donation of $25 is suggested. Call Blaine County Democrats Chair Gini Ballou at 720-4347 to reserve a spot.

Kids place in IPTV contest

Hailey siblings Jake Simon and Zoe Simon captured second place in their grade categories in the Idaho Public Television/KAID regional PBS Kids Go Writers Contest. Ketchum students Blake Beckwith and Sarah Feltman earned third-place awards in their grade categories.

The Simons' winning titles were: Jake, kindergarten, "Eagle Adventures," and Zoe, second grade, "Casey and Cleopatra." Beckwith, first grade, submitted a story titled "The Knight's War," and Feltman, second grade, created "Believe."

This is Idaho PTV's 16th year to participate in an annual student writers contest, which encourages students in kindergarten through third grade nationwide to pair their stories with original illustrations to create their own literary works. In Southwest Idaho, 278 students submitted stories and illustrations for judging.

Drug Coalition wins Heart of Gold

The Blaine County Community Drug Coalition has received a $3,400 award from the Idaho Community Fund, a group that collects funds from donors, grows the funds over time through investment and then grants the funds for projects statewide. This particular award came out of the Heart of Gold Fund, created to support nonprofit organizations working to better the Wood River Valley.

Ketchum City Hall to close early

On Friday, May 21, the Ketchum City Hall will close at noon to facilitate building repairs that require a scheduled power outage.

Questions regarding this closure may be directed to Fire Chief Mike Elle at 726-7805.

Coldwell Banker helps shelter

The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley was chosen as Coldwell Banker's "Charity of the Month" for April. A team from the local office of the firm reported that it had a great time installing tarps to provide the animals protection from the summer sun.

The Charity of the Month program was started in 2008 by agents of Coldwell Banker in the Wood River Valley. Anyone who would like a charity to be considered for a future Charity of the Month can call Theresa Pemberton at 622-3400.
