Support the rodeo park

We are writing to ask all Hailey residents to read the details surrounding the new Hailey Rodeo Park. This project is comprehensive and thoughtful, the use of the current rodeo ground space is phenomenal and the plan for continued support of the facility is thorough.

In the past few weeks, we have read opinions and concerns over the funding needed to complete construction and support this park. This bond will raise taxes approximately $6 per month on average (it is based on property value) for the next 10 years. There is no doubt that it is a difficult time to consider any increase in spending, but the list of benefits that this park brings to our community is impressive. As Hailey residents, we believe that approving this bond is an important investment in our future.

The Hailey Rodeo Park will continue the Hailey rodeo tradition while also offering many other uses for this beautiful new arena. The new indoor ice rink will deliver a facility for hockey teams, figure skaters, family skates, league play and statewide tournaments that will bring additional commerce to our valley. In the off-season, batting cages, sport courts, coaching clinics, camps and a variety of other activities offer new alternatives for a healthy community. And finally, the expanded skate park will give skateboarders of all levels an area to learn and play.

We are one of many families who have spent countless hours driving to Sun Valley to skate. We have traveled thousands of miles to Idaho communities for hockey, baseball, soccer and other activities and have experienced other successful facilities of this type. We believe that there is an opportunity on May 25 to make a decision that will allow Hailey to stand out among Idaho communities. It will have a positive impact on the city and on the residents of our valley for years to come.

The details of how this new park will operate are available on the Hailey City Hall website (www.haileycityhall.org) and we encourage everyone to read the plans and vote "yes" to create a healthy and long-lasting legacy for our community.
