Ahead of the upcoming general election this November, state Rep. Wendy Jaquet, D-Ketchum, has thrown her support behind the candidacy of Keith Allred.

Allred, running as a Democrat, is seeking to unseat incumbent Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, a Republican.

In a letter to her supporters this week, Jaquet said she's long admired Allred's work in Idaho. Allred recently celebrated the five-year anniversary of a nonprofit organization he founded, The Common Interest, which has the goal of putting "common sense solutions ahead of special-interest and partisan politics in the Legislature."

Allred, who now lives in Eagle after returning in 2003 from a seven-year stint as a professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, would often call Jaquet to ask her to identify "hot" issues coming up, she said.

"He would research each issue, poll his members to establish their positions and then develop the talking points to take to legislators," she stated. "I used the talking points in many conversations with my caucus and in many floor debates, and I have never had such thorough and helpful materials to help me make my points."

Jaquet said Allred, along with his wife, Christine Allred, cares deeply about Idaho and its people. She said he's committed to good public policy that benefits everyone in the state.

"Keith has a vision for Idaho—something we seriously lack," Jaquet concluded in her letter.
