As a resident in this valley for almost 40 years, I have watched a lot of our history disappear. Much of this was unavoidable, given the increase in population and the accompanying demand for housing. But there is an area we have a chance to preserve: the Hailey Rodeo Grounds. This property is owned by the city and, until now, had always been leased to the Sawtooth Rangers. But that lease expires this summer.
If voters approve a minimal tax increase, and if we can raise matching funds from those willing to give back to our community, our county will not only continue to enjoy the historic Fourth of July rodeo, but we will have an all-event center for summer concerts, fairs, horse shows and 4-H events. In addition, there will be an enhanced skateboard park and a year-round, covered, ice rink.
The architectural drawings show in detail what a gem of an opportunity we have before us. And it is right in our own backyard. It is just about the healthiest donation we could give to ourselves and to our kids. Please consider giving a donation to the Hailey Rodeo Park, Box 3107, Hailey. And, please vote yes to the aptly named "Obligation Bond" on May 25.
