Incumbent Judge Robert J. Elgee outscored his election opponent, Hailey attorney Douglas Werth, in a survey of Idaho attorneys conducted by the Idaho State Bar.

Results of the survey for the Blaine County 5th Judicial District judge position were released by the State Bar on Tuesday. On a scale of 1-4, Elgee received an overall positive rating of 3.3, compared to 2.7 for Werth.

According to the State Bar, 364 attorneys completed surveys for the Elgee-Werth contest.

The survey rated the candidates on (1) integrity and independence, (2) knowledge and understanding of the law, (3) judicial temperament and demeanor, and (4) legal ability and experience.

Elgee received a 3.3 rating in all areas except knowledge and understanding of the law, where he was rated 3.2.

Werth received a 2.7 rating in all four areas.

Voters of the 5th Judicial District, which includes Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka and Twin Falls counties, will be able to express their own opinions on the candidates in the primary election on May 25.
