Update from tennis, lacrosse and soccer teams


U-18 boys unbeaten on soccer pitch

It's been a successful spring season for the Wood River U-18 Boys' Soccer Club.

On April 25, the local boys clinched first place in the Idaho Youth Soccer Association's District 3 Second Division.

Coached by Cameron Lawler, the team capped off its unbeaten season with a 4-1 win over Middleton. Bryan Donoso scored a three-goal hat trick.

Team members were Jesus Alelandro Lopez, David Aranda Vilcampoma, Cassidy Carson, Harlan Collins, Donoso, Jeffrey Espejo, Charlie Evans, Tanner Flanigan, Daniel Gomis, Juan Hernanzez, Hector Lopez, Alex Macmillian, Nathan Moses, Alejandro Paredes, Felipe Raygoza, Benito Reveles, Luis "Freddy" Tamayo and Spyder Turco.

The WRSC boys scored an unmatched 23 goals for the season, allowing only three.

Coach Lawler said the season was a big improvement since the team finished in the middle of the pack in season play against southern Idaho and eastern Oregon last year.

He said, "Hard work during the off-season months really paid off for the boys, as well as the excellent coaching they all received last fall from their high school coaches Luis Monjaras and Richard Whitelaw."

With the regular season over, the boys are ready for the upcoming tournament season. They plan to compete in the Idaho Falls Shootout May 15-16 and the President's Cup tournament May 22-23 in Boise.

Big week of tennis for Cutthroats

A busy week of tennis for The Community School team began Friday, April 30 with a home meet against the Gooding Senators on the Sun Valley Tennis Courts. The Cutthroat junior varsity won 10-2.

Highlight was the #1 girls' singles victory of freshman Ella Marks, who captured a third-set tiebreaker.

Other results included a sweep of singles matches including Cassidy Carson 7-6, 6-1, Averell Tian 6-2, 6-2, Eli Albarran 6-1, 6-2, Gina Rickling 6-2, 6-2 and Maddie Caraluzzi 6-1, 7-6.

Doubles winners for TCS were Colin Waycott and Gray Riedinger 6-2, 6-1, Reta Flynt and Hailey Rheinschild 6-4, 6-3, Daniela Stokes and Ellie Swanson 7-6, 2-6, 6-0, Zach Lindahl and Paige Riedinger 6-0. 6-0.

Also competing were the doubles teams of Tom Crosby and Will Brokaw, Noah Koski and Taylor Figge.

The Cutthroats were due to host Wood River and Minico Tuesday, May 4, and then go against Twin Falls and Canyon Ridge of Twin Falls Thursday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. on the Sun Valley tennis courts.

Warriors pick up scoring,
head into homestretch

After an eight-game stretch against the toughest teams in the Treasure Valley Lacrosse League (TVLL), the Wood River Warriors lacrosse team is heading into the homestretch of its 12-game season with some likely breathing room ahead.

Wood River (1-7-0) attacks the final four games of play in the 13-team league coming off its best offensive performance of the season in a 15-5 loss to the Mountain View Mavericks last Saturday in Hailey.

And Wood River (16 goals scored, 115 goals against) had perhaps its best chance at another league win Tuesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. against the Vallivue High Falcons (0-8) on the Mountain Home field.

Coming: Wood River visits Bishop Kelly (5-3) in Boise Saturday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. and then faces the Borah High School Lions (0-8) from Boise Tuesday, May 11 at Mountain Home. The home finale is Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. in Hailey against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies (2-6).

Playing Mountain View (6-3, 100-58 goals against) last Saturday, the Warriors mounted 20 shots and made five of them—by Nick Chase (2 goals, 1 assist), Gus Conrad (1 goal, 1 assist), Niels McMahon (1 goal, 1 assist) and Tanner Marcouiller (1 goal). Will Sutcliff added an assist.

Goalkeeper Kasey Barker made 16 saves against the high-scoring Mountain View attack.
