Call for actors
St. Thomas Playhouse has announced open auditions for the Summer Theater Project production of "Pippin," book by Roger O. Hirson, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Auditions will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 8, from noon to 4 p.m.
Actors and singers will need to prepare 16 bars of a song and read selected scenes from "Pippin." "Pippin" scenes are available for pickup today at the St. Thomas Church office. The show will run June 16-20 at The Community School Theatre in Sun Valley. For details, contact Sara Gorby at 726-5349, ext. 16, or e-mail sgorby@stthomassunvalley.org.
In addition, St. Thomas Playhouse will be conducting open auditions for the Family Main Stage production of "Oliver!" on Wednesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 6, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Adapted from Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist," this heartfelt, adventuresome musical has been highly popular since its debut in London in 1960. The musical will play at nexStage Theatre in Ketchum on Oct. 14-17, with rehearsals beginning in late summer.
Besides the several adult roles, St. Thomas Playhouse is eager to have not only boys but also girls audition for the many parts of the orphans and members of the "pickpocket gang" (ages 5 and up). In past years, the playhouse's inter-generational family musicals have had nine families with both parents and their children involved. No theatrical experience is necessary.
