Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers will be the big event in the Sun Valley Center for the Arts' summer concert series this year. The performance will take place at River Run Lodge south of Ketchum on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The series will begin Saturday, June 19, with a performance by Jose Conde and Nu Latin Groove at The Center in Hailey. On Friday, June 25, The Center will present Zap Mama at Hop Porter Park in Hailey.

The eclectic mix of concerts is a cross-section of music and performances appropriate for all ages.

The New York Times wrote, "Conde's vocal understatement is unusual. He formulates an Afro-Cuban music with an emphasis on songs with characters, wordplay and mild social ideas and brings together the Cuban music form of son, with New Orleans funk, Nigerian Afrobeat, James Brown rhythms, Haitian compas, New York City boogaloo and even jam-band stuff."

Zap Mama, fronted by amazing vocalist Marie Daulne, is a Belgian musical group founded and led by Daulne. Daulne, born in Isiro, a large city north of the Orientale province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bridges European and African cultures through her music with harmonic sounds and a mixture of heavily infused African instruments as well as rhythm and blues and hip-hop.

Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers is a special treat for the valley, especially since the Steep Canyon Rangers are one of the best bluegrass bands performing today. In addition, seeing and hearing another side of the multitalented Martin, known to be an incredible banjo player, will offer an evening of smiles and, of course, lots of laughs.
