Ed-da-ho fire extinguished

Firefighters made short order of a conflagration in Muldoon Canyon east of Bellevue on Sunday night, extinguishing a structure fire at the Ee-da-ho Ranch in less than 20 minutes. Neither the owner of the ranch, whose primary residence is on the East Coast, nor the caretaker were home at the time of the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

According to Wood River Fire & Rescue Chief Bart Lassman, firefighters were dispatched to the ranch at 6:08 p.m. Workers on the ranch reported reddish-brown smoke coming from the main house. They tried to extinguish the fire with a hose before firefighters arrived, but were unsuccessful.

Two engines, two water tenders, a ladder truck, a heavy rescue truck and an ambulance from Wood River Fire & Rescue responded to the call. Engines from the Bellevue and Hailey fire departments were also on scene. The Sheriff's Office also responded.

Upon arrival, the crew of Engine 51 quickly knocked down the fire, which had progressed to heavy smoke and flames. They attacked the flames from the outside of the roof and then moved inside, cutting out a large section of the roof to access the flames.

"Everything we're looking at points to an electrical cause of the fire," Lassman said.

However, he said the cause remains under investigation.

Lassman said the fire caused an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 damage.

"It was almost exclusively fire damage with some water damage in the house," he said.
