“Nourishing Bellies and Bodies” for lunch

Free meals continue at Woodside school

This summer children in Blaine County can count on more than just hot weather.

They can count on hot food!

The Hunger Coalition and Blaine County School District have teamed up again with the Environmental Resource Center and the Bellevue Public Library to offer the Lunch Connection, a free summer food program at Woodside Elementary School in Hailey.

Children 1-18 are welcome to enjoy nutritious meals beginning June 14. There is no need to qualify or be enrolled in summer school—the doors are open to all.

"Nourishing Bellies and Bodies" is the theme of the program as the Lunch Connection seeks to combat hunger among local children, recognizing that one-in-three Blaine County students qualify for a free or reduced meal during the school year.

"With more than 6,000 meals served during last year's program, the continuing need for food assistance to our community's children is clear," said Hunger Coalition Executive Director Jeanee Liston.

Free hot lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. from June 14 to Aug. 20. The Environmental Resource Center and Bellevue Public Library will offer activities on Tuesday's and Thursdays from 12-1 p.m.

From July 19 through August 13, free hot breakfast will also be served from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Adults accompanying children can purchase breakfast for $1.75 and lunch for $3.

Mountain Rides Transportation Authority offers bus service to Woodside Elementary. Information on specific bus routes and times will be available in early June.
