A dozen years for MATís outdoor fun

Mountain Adventure Tours for kids

It's going on a dozen years, and Mountain Adventure Tours (MAT) continues to perfect its unique brand of Enviro-tainment, once again offering a wide range of programs for children ages four to 16.

Through daily adventures and multi-night road trips, MAT provides an exciting environment to explore the natural world, the Wood River Valley community and the people living within it.

The programs help children learn responsibility, independence and decision-making skills by giving campers the responsibility and freedom to discover who they are and where their talents lie.

This summer, 15 programs are being offered, a number of which will utilize MAT's 13-acre BaseCamp property located on the eastern edge of Trail Creek Road. It sits along the Big Lost River under the silent gaze of Idaho's tallest peak, Mount Borah.

From swimming, trekking and exploring, to touring local businesses to see how they run, campers can explore MAT's favorite spots, including the Bruneau Sand Dunes, Magic Reservoir and Craters of the Moon.

BaseCamp itself allows for a wide variety of activities, ranging from fly-fishing to hiking, and also houses MAT's digital video studio, one of the most popular programs of the summer.

Some new programs for this summer include Gardening Camp, taking place June through August, where kids will get the opportunity to plan, plant and harvest. There will also be a Counselors-in-Training camp that helps veteran campers transition into becoming a MAT counselor.

Other overnight opportunities include an introduction to river guiding along the Payette River, a Wild West adventure to Montana and Mountain Adventure Music Camp.

For full program descriptions, schedules, prices and applications, visit the MAT website mountainadventuretours.org or call 309-1005. Information about scholarships is also available.
