Act, design, play and laugh a little

Performers grow at two camps

The opportunity to have a summer camp experience combined with a love of theater is all possible with Laughing Stock Theatre Company's Camp Little Laugh and the nexStage Theatre's Summer Stages Camp.

Camp Little Laugh

Camp Little Laugh is the Laughing Stock Theatre Company's summer camp that has attracted campers for 22 years. The sleep-away camp is held at Cathedral Pines, north of Ketchum and will take place Saturday, Aug. 7, through Friday, Aug. 13, for grades 3-10. The cost of the camp is $875 and scholarships as well as payment plans are available.

Camp Little Laugh is a traditional camp experience with the addition of the performing arts, which includes classes in mime, improvisation, acting, art, dance and music.

"Once a kids comes they always want to come back," said organizer Kathy Wygle. "It is an all around camp with a show at the end but kids get to do everything."

Camp Little Laugh also offers recreational games, hiking and evening campfires and Cathedral Pines close proximity to Easley Hot Springs allows for lots of swimming fun. A Grand Finale performance will take place on Friday, Aug. 13, with a family and friends barbecue.

Summer Stages Day Camp

The nexStage Theatre is excited for the 2010 Summer Stages Day Camp to held at The Community School in Sun Valley. Kids will participate in classes including designing and creating sets, costumes and props. In addition, classes in performing arts will consist of acting, improvisation, art, stage combat dance and music.

"We will incorporate outdoor time into the curriculum," said camp director Patsy Wygle. "Kids get every aspect of theater and enjoy the outside."

The camp will take place July 6-23 for ages 4-7, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and for ages 8-16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost for ages 4-7 is $425 and for ages 8-16 is $625. Scholarships and payment plans are available.

A final free performance will take place at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum on Friday, July 23, and every age group will have a performance.

Camp directors, Patsy Wygle, the nexStage Theater's education director, Keith Moore teaching artist, and Bruce Hostetler artistic director of the Compass Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon will lead campers into creative and fun theater experiences.
