Alpine climbing is Canyon Camp’s lure

Sawtooth Mountain Guides program

Based in Stanley and founded in 1985, Sawtooth Mountain Guides has been operating climbing camps for kids of all ages for 25 years.

Sawtooth Alpine Kids Camp July 5-9 for ages 10-16 focuses on group-centered learning. Kids work together to perform camp duties and prepare meals. While enjoying the outdoors, they develop self-confidence and partnerships.

The camp starts and finishes at Redfish Lake. Camp directors use a base camp located three miles up Redfish Canyon. It's called Canyon Camp. It is stocked with tents, sleeping bags and kitchen gear.

Because of the base camp set-up, kids only need to carry a medium-size backpack with their personal gear and enough room for a one-night backpacking trip to Saddleback Lakes on the fourth night.

You'll have spectacular views and vistas from the camp. Activities include rock climbing, hiking, fishing, swimming, mountaineering, map and compass work and "camp craft." The cost is $625 per person.
