Cosmic blasts at Vacation Bible Schools

Learning the word, in a galactic way

Vacation Bible Schools draw attention to the message and word of Jesus Christ—while children also enjoy a wealth of fun activities for a week.

Hailey's Calvary Bible Church, Ketchum's St. Thomas Episcopal Church/Our Lady of the Snows and Valley of Peace in Hailey are hosting Vacation Bible Schools this summer.

There is also Vacation Bible School at Ketchum's Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood. The themes focus on fun and sharing God's Word.

Big Wood "Galactic Blast"

"Galactic Blast," a cosmic adventure praising God, is the theme of Big Wood Presbyterian's Vacation Bible School experience this summer.

It is set for Monday through Friday, Aug. 2-6 from 8:45 a.m. to noon each day at the riverside church. All children from age four through sixth grade are welcome to attend.

There will be skits, music, Bible stories, crafts and snacks. Transportation from Hailey to Ketchum is available on a first-come, first-served basis. So are scholarships on request.

This year's cost has stayed the same, $35 per child, or $75 per family. To register contact Carrie Kotara at 622-0548.

SonQuest Rain Forest

Calvary Bible Church invites all local children in the valley to join its annual Vacation Bible School, known this year as SonQuest Rain Forest.

Theme is "where kids follow Jesus on a life-changing adventure." The Bible School welcomes kids from age four through sixth grade.

"We're ready for a Vacation Bible School your children will never forget," said Susan Stouffer, Christian Education Director at Calvary Bible Church.

At SonRock Kids' Camp children have a great time singing, creating crafts and playing games. They learn how to make good choices every day. Some classes are held outside, and special activities are planned for children going into the sixth grade.

"The highlight of the week is always the exciting evening program on Thursday, June 24 at 6 p.m. It consists of musical entertainment and a barbeque that is fun for the entire family," said Stouffer.

SonQuest Rain Forest Vacation Bible School begins Monday, June 21 and continues through Friday, June 25, from 8:45 a.m. until noon each day.

Try to register children early, by June 4, to make sure you get a t-shirt. The cost is $15 per child and $40 for a family of three or more. The Website is calvarybiblewr.org/vbs.

Calvary Bible Church is located one mile north of Hailey on S.H. 75. For more information, call 788-9174 or 578-0334.

"Unshaken" Valley of Peace

Camp Perkins is coming to Hailey's Valley of Peace Lutheran Church for a week of Vacation Bible School this summer. The church is located at 740 Wintergreen. And the VBS theme is "Unshaken."

Dates are June 28 through July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children entering kindergarten through sixth grade are invited. Lunch and snacks are provided. Call Wendy at 788-30-34 or the church at 788-3066.

"High Seas" at Our Lady of the Snows

St. Thomas Episcopal Church and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church are ready for their 2010 Vacation Bible School in July. It will be held at Our Lady of the Snows on Sun Valley Rd., Sun Valley.

Theme is "High Seas," where elementary-aged children "set sail" for VBS fun and feel the sea spray in their faces. This year's dates are July 12-16, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The fun includes arts and crafts, drama and theater, games, snacks and friendship. To register call Martha Deffe at 622-3432 or mdeffe@cox.net. Cost is $75 per child. Scholarships are available.
