During summer, kids take over the College of Southern Idaho Campus in Hailey. In June and July the college is offering kid-level training in grown-up topics by qualified instructors in small classes.

Here's a quick list of classes:

Yoga instructor Victoria Roper begins the summer June 21-24 with "Yoga for Kids." The workshop will train youngsters in the Indian practice of yoga for health, energy, mental clarity as well as balance, flexibility, stamina and poise.

Young students interested in picking up a second language can study French or Spanish at The Community Campus.

Roper, a certified Spanish teacher who has traveled extensively in Spanish-speaking countries, will teach the first course June 21-24 for grades 3-5. The curriculum is designed for kids with little or no language background.

Elise Bingham, a certified French teacher, will teach French Camps 1 and 2 from July 26-30. Snacks will be provided each day to engender an appreciation of French cuisine.

No CSI summer would be complete without the ants.

Naturalist Ann Christensen will offer "Plants and Ants." The July 12-15 camp will allow kids to get dirty in the search for bugs and plants. They will embark on a series of field trips to explore various natural communities and the creatures that inhabit them.

As they visit rivers, forests, ponds, meadows, and sagebrush areas, they will learn about botany, geology, and ecology. The class is a must to introduce children to the wonders of our great outdoors. Each child should bring a sack lunch and outdoor gear.

If the laboratory is more your child's style, join former high school biology teacher Julia Kinsey as she takes young scientists in grades 1-3 on a three-day journey into the inner workings of green plants with Green Science Camp for Kids. The dates are June 15-17.

Budding crime stoppers will have fun cracking the case of an imaginary crime during a class called "CSI at CSI." It is held in the mornings June 9-10.

The class is led by Tracy Perreira, who works at the crime lab for the Twin Falls Police Department. Young people learn the procedures for collecting evidence and taking photographs as they develop theories for what took place in a "mock" crime scene.

Kids learn how to handcuff and fingerprint a suspect.

To register for a College for Kids class, visit the CSI office at the Community Campus in Hailey, or call 788-2033.
