Cross the line for some football fun

Camps for kids and high school players

Second-year Wood River High School football coach Kevin Stilling is excited about two youth football camps coming up at the end of the 2009-10 school year—and the High School Pride Camp June 7-9.

"Cross the Line" is the motto of the resident camper at Pride Camp. Stilling believes that learning football fundamentals and doing strength training become year round commitments as players get older.

It starts in the lower grades.

Stilling and his staff will greet younger players at the Hailey high school for two after-school camps in late May as the kids start getting really antsy about the end of school.

Youth Camp for kids entering grades 1-6 is Monday through Thursday, May 17-20 from 4-5:30 p.m. No previous football experience is needed. Focus is on skill development and fun. High school coaches and players and coaches staff the camp. Cost is $40.

Worried about your child's commitments to spring baseball? Stilling said, "If there is a conflict with baseball, contact me and we'll pro-rate your camp fee. We want you to come as often as you can!"

The Middle School Camp for grades 7-8 is also Monday through Thursday, May 17-20 from 5:30-7 p.m., also at the high school. High school coaches and players and WRMS coaches will focus on the offensive and defensive fundamentals used at WRMS. Cost is $40.

"Don't let finances interfere with attendance for any of our camps," Stilling said. "Contact me at 578-5020 ext. 2295 with any questions or email kstilling@blaineschools.org.

The Wolverine Football Pride Camp ($75 including meals and t-shirt) is Monday through Wednesday, June 7-9 at Wood River High. It is designed for students entering the ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

Taking place on the first week of summer vacation, Pride Camp is an overnight resident camp with an emphasis on team building, competitive fun, offensive and defensive systems. There will be guest speakers, weight training and padded practice.

At Pride Camp, participants will start at 8 a.m. Monday and finish at noon Wednesday. All meals are included. So is a camp t-shirt. Registrations are due no later than June 7 at 8 a.m. Contact Stilling for details.

Optimist Football Fair

Register for the Wood River Optimist youth football program Wednesday, May 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the middle school in Hailey. At the fair, you can also register for the Wood River Youth Football Camp set for May 17-20, Stilling said.
