PAL promises summer fun for free

Police program offers positive recreation

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is once again offering free things for kids to do this summer through the Police Activities League, more commonly referred to as PAL.

Numerous activities are offered from June through August. Golfing, fishing, hiking, swimming camping, bowling, rafting and a host of other fun things to do are available for 2010.

The program is open to youngsters 9-16, but for rafting trips, you need to be at least 12.

The idea behind PAL is to get kids involved in fun positive recreational activities to help steer them away from negatives such as under age consumption of alcohol, street gangs and illegal drugs.

This summer's PAL events kick off on June 7 with a dinner and movie combo package.

Lots of other great events follow, such as golf competitions, swimming and fishing outings, basketball camps, rafting and hiking excursions, rodeo, baseball games and pretty much whatever else kids like to do in the summer.

PAL activities last until Aug. 13. Participation is free, but you need to register for events 10 days in advance.

For more information or to register for events call 788-7080.
