The Green Antelope Gallery in Bellevue is ready for spring and will feature two Idaho artists, Marilyn Hoff Hansen and Ruth Sauerbreit, who capture the essence of Idaho's beauty. Hansen was born in Idaho Falls and has worked in a diverse range of media, from sculpture using cast concrete, resin, welded steel and bronze to two-dimensional work using oil and acrylic as well as ink brush drawings.

Hansen's work has earned numerous awards, including a commission by Boise State University for its "Bronco" sculpture. Galleries in Idaho, New Mexico and Wyoming have represented her work. As a member of Idaho's Snow Sculpture team, she placed first in nationals and in the top 10 at the Olympic Snow Sculpture event in Calgary, Alberta. Her art has taken her to both Europe and Asia.

Sauerbreit is a self-taught artist who has been painting since she was old enough to hold a brush. A resident of the Big Lost River Valley, Sauerbreit's art is often influenced by the allure of her surroundings. She spends much of her time exploring the mountains for new inspiration, and her landscapes capture the beauty of nature. Her impressionistic pieces are often painted on location, "plein air," and are an interpretation of her surroundings rather than an exact representation.

"We're excited to have two such accomplished artists joining the growing number of local and regional artists we represent," said Green Antelope Gallery owner Brooke Bonner. "This show is a wonderful representation of Idaho themes—beautiful landscapes, horses, bulls, dilapidated old barns— from Sauerbreit's more traditional oil landscapes to Hansen's contemporary horses, those who love Idaho will appreciate this show."

The Green Antelope Gallery will hold an artists' reception with Hansen and Sauerbreit in attendance on Friday, April 23, from 5-9 p.m. at 116 S. Second St., on the corner of Oak and Second streets. For details, call the gallery at 788-2353 or visit greenantelope.net.
