Glenns Ferry rodeo in the books for pokes

Taylor takes breakaway, pole bending

Reigning Fifth District all-around girls' champ Haillie Taylor of Hailey won breakaway roping and pole bending go-rounds during the season-opening district rodeo stop April 16-17 at Elmore County Fairgrounds, Glenns Ferry

Only 15 breakaway ropers posted times in the two go-rounds, but Wood River High School sophomore Taylor had the best with a speedy 2.860 seconds in the first go-round. Her winning pole bending time Saturday was 21.568 seconds.

Taylor currently stands in fourth place in the girls' all-around with 45 points. Her rival from Jerome, Valene Lickley, didn't win any events but collected points across the board in barrels, breakaway, goats, pole bending and team roping to lead with 63.

Wood River High School's Rodeo Team boasted a solid performance in team roping by newcomers Jared Anderson and Eli McNees. The Hailey freshmen placed second in the first go-round at 18.780 seconds for nine all-around points each.

Other Fifth District rodeos are April 23-24 at Jerome, May 7-8 at Shoshone and May 14-15 for the Senior Home Rodeo at Blaine County Fairgrounds in Carey. District competition is May 28-29 at Gooding.

Meanwhile, Haillie Taylor finished third (64 points) and second (71) to winners Katie Sparks and Jessica Lancaster of Jerome in the April 13 cow cutting at Rocky Mountain Event Center, Declo. After two cuttings Taylor is tied with Lancaster in first, each with 35 points, and Sparks has 30.
