Mountain West Bank to host BAH

The Hailey Chamber of Commerce's monthly Business After Hours event is set for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 15. It will be hosted by Mountain West Bank and catered by Zou 75.

People are invited to stop by and mingle with the staff, Hailey Chamber members and guests.

Silva to address resort's future

Sun Valley Resort General Manager Tim Silva and Wally Huffman, director of resort development, will speak at an open meeting today to reveal their plans for the future of Sun Valley Resort.

The open meeting will be in the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room starting at 5:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Wood River Economic Partnership.

National Healthcare Decisions Day set

Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley will highlight the importance of advance health-care decision-making on Friday, April 16, designated National Healthcare Decisions Day.

Hospice will provide information and tools for people to talk about their wishes with family, friends and health-care providers, and execute written advance directives. The directives constitute health-care power of attorney and living will in accordance with Idaho law.

Hospice will welcome the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 507 First Ave. N. in Ketchum. Registered nurses will be available to answer questions and refreshments will be served.

Hospital offers health screenings

St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center will once again offer its "Heart of the Matter" cholesterol testing on three dates at three locations this month. Included are a blood cholesterol test, blood pressure check and cardiac risk profile for a $10 fee. A prostate cancer screening will be available at no additional charge.

No appointment is necessary. All participants must fast for at least eight hours prior to testing. For more information, call 727-8733.

· Thursday, April 15, from 7-10 a.m. at the Community Campus in Hailey.

· Monday, April 19, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at City Hall/Senior Center in Carey.

· Saturday, April 24, from 7-10 a.m. at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center near Ketchum.

2010 Census about to close

Thursday, April 22, will be the last day to mail in census forms. People can give their answers over the phone or request that a form be sent to them.

Builders get break on back class

Physical therapist Mary Ellen O'Leary is offering her back exercise class to construction workers for free for the rest of April.

O'Leary said that after reading an article in the Idaho Mountain Express, "Construction starts dip sharply," and knowing that a lot of workers are out of work, she wanted to extend a helping hand. The back class is an hour of proper stretching, core strengthening, balance, breathing awareness and meditation.

The class is offered Mondays at 8:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 8 a.m. at the Blaine County Fitness gym in Hailey.

Northwood Place sets open house

Northwood Place, Ketchum's first affordable rental housing development, will hold a marketing open house on Saturday, April 17, from 9-11 a.m. The event will begin at the YMCA community room.

Information boards will show floor plans, describe amenities and explain the application process. The development and marketing team will make a short presentation at 9 a.m. and will move over to the job site at 10 a.m. to begin guided walking tours.

Northwood Place has 32 one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Each unit has abundant daylight with windows that capture views of Bald Mountain and the surrounding area.

TV host Dallago recovering in Dallas

Former Ketchum resident Gene Dallago's voice is known to many from his years on the radio with "Talk of the Valley" or from his public affairs television program on Channel 13, "Perspective."

On Sept. 11, 2009, Dallago suffered a brain aneurysm, and is now in Dallas for rehabilitation. He is recovering well and has plans to return to the valley, friends said. Cards and well wishes may be sent to: Gene Dallago, Centre for Neuro Skills, 3915 Portland St., Irving, TX 75038-6653.

Wood River Fire & Rescue announces scholarship

The Wood River Fire & Rescue Firefighters' Association has introduced a $500 scholarship program for the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded to a Blaine County student or students seeking an education in health care or fire science.

The application can be found at www.wrfrffa.com/scholarship.php, by calling 720-9113, or by dropping by Wood River Fire & Rescue's station at 117 E. Walnut St. in Hailey.

Completed applications must be received by May 21. The top 10 applicants will be invited to an interview the week of June 7.
