Open Room host Gallery Walk

for The Community School

The Community School seventh grade will present a culmination of a semester-long unit studying ethnic tolerance and promises to raise funds for earthquake relief in Haiti at a Gallery Walk at the Open Room in Ketchum on Thursday, April 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

All student works will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Past events have raised funds for a girls' school in Afghanistan, an integrated peace project in the Middle East and a free-school project in Port-au-Prince. For details, call 622-3960, ext. 138.

Hailey to celebrate a 'Month of Art'

July is a "Month of Art" in Hailey and will feature "A Day of Chalk" on Saturday, July 10, for children, families and artists to create drawings and designs on sidewalks down Main Street. In addition, the "Just Bag It" temporary public art installation will be on display from June 18 through Sept. 5. At the end of June and throughout the summer, there will be sculpture installed on Main Street.

The third annual "Night of Music" will take place Monday, July 19. "Night of Music" is a family-oriented walking exploration of downtown and music. Restaurants, bars and other venues will host free, live musical events from 5-10 p.m.

Other art events occurring in late June and throughout July include Company of Fools kicking off its 15th season at the Liberty Theatre with "The 39 Steps," which will take place July 6-31, an installation and musical performance at The Center in Hailey and many activities during the annual Fourth of July Week, July 1-4, for "Hailey Days of the Old West."

Throughout the summer, Hailey will also feature "The Artists' Market" every Thursday along with the Farmers' Market, and on Wednesday evenings free live music at the Back Alley parties at the Wicked Spud, which benefit a different local nonprofit every week.

The "Month of Art" culminates with the 33rd annual Northern Rockies Folk Festival on Aug. 6-7 in Hop Porter Park.

Call for participants

The Sun Valley Center for the Arts will present an open exhibition, "Timber!" with the Hailey Arts Commission as part of the city of Hailey's "Month of Art" from July 1 through Sept. 10. The exhibition is in conjunction with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts' Ketchum exhibition "Beam, Board, Breath: An Investigation of Trees." Idaho photographers, illustrators, painters and printmakers are invited to present their interpretations of the trees that inhabit the valley's landscape, community and neighborhoods. Artists and the general public are invited to an opening celebration on July 1 at The Center in Hailey.

Work must be delivered to the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Ketchum or in Hailey by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 24. For submission guidelines, call 726-9491 or visit sunvalleycenter.org.

Call to artists

The Artists' Market is partnering with the Farmers' Market on Thursdays from 2:30-6 p.m. in Hailey beginning June 10 through September. The Ketchum Artists' market will take place on Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m. beginning June 8 through Sept. 7.
