Harriet Wingard

Harriet Wingard slipped away peacefully on Monday, March 29, at Blaine Manor in Hailey. She was a Wood River Valley resident for nine years.

Harriet was born in a small village in Wickersham, Wash., 94 years ago. The family then moved to the San Pedro area of Southern California early on and Harriet went to school there, graduating from Banning High School, during which time she loved being a carhop. Through high school and later in life she was very active in sports—basketball, baseball, volleyball, bowling and golf.

Harriet met her husband, George, in elementary school. They were married in 1934 after graduation.

She belonged to the 300 club in her bowling league, and has a hole in one to her credit in golf. She also loved and played a tough game of blackjack. She owned a snappy 1958 Impala convertible and she and George dearly loved traveling around in it (a typical California girl).

Harriet is survived by her children, Pat (Bob) Heger of Lakeside, Calif., and Steve (Diana) Wingard of Ketchum, Idaho; five grandchildren, Robert (Maureen) Heger of Temecula, Calif., Nick (Sallie) Heger of Jamul, Calif., Melinda Heger of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jessica Wingard of Ketchum and Eric Wingard of Hailey. She is survived also by eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Harriet will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, George, in Southern California. No services are planned. Cremation arrangements were handled through Wood River Chapel. A quest book and the obituary are available at www.woodriverchapel.com.
