Nationals rock

On behalf of all the competitors from both here and far, far away, I hope to be the first of many to say "Thank You" to everyone responsible for the effort and dedication it took to pull of the "Senior Nationals."

I'm sure I speak for all of us, both competitors and spectators, in saying this event was spectacular, and very much a positive reflection on the caliber and heritage that Sun Valley and the great mountain of Baldy has to offer.

I'm a southern Idaho boy, and I've had the privilege of skiing on Baldy for well over 50 years, and I remember with great reflection watching the world's greatest skiers, including Killy, Thoeni, Stenmark, Russell, and many others compete at the World Cup level running downhill on Exhibition, and slalom on Holiday. Years later, we watched pro downhill on the entire length of Warm Springs. This is the heritage of this great mountain, and this has been severely lacking for many of the recent years.

I understand the importance and logic of trying to market and compete with Vail, but our product is second to none on this planet, and I speak for many in my hopes that this is just the beginning of an effort for us to rediscover our destiny, and bring back the original concept that makes this amazing place great.

I opened my arms to many new friends, as I know many of us have done, and again I speak for many in saying that these new friendships will last for life, and I'm sure I speak for all of my new friends in saying "Thank You" once again, and I reiterate from all of them the envy they have in respect to all of us "locals" who are lucky enough to ski and participate in this great adventure we call "Baldy." I hope all of my new friends come back very soon.

Let's do it again soon.
