Sidney Werry

Sidney Eugene Werry, 83, passed away suddenly on March 25, 2010, in Peoria, Ariz. Born Feb. 1, 1927, in Hailey, Idaho, to Fred and Edith Werry, he grew up and attended schools in the Wood River Valley, was a veteran and graduated from the University of Idaho. Sid married Louise O'Maley on Aug. 27, 1950. They started their home and family in Pocatello and later moved to Howe, Idaho, where they farmed and ranched for most of their 57 years together. They raised three children, Sherry, Robert and Judy.

He served in the Navy as a gunner's mate during World War II. He had a reputation of being a top farmer and rancher in the Little Lost River Valley. The Howe community recognized Sid's civic contributions by naming him the 1997 Fourth of July parade grand marshal. Sid wintered in Arizona for 27 years and spent summers in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His enthusiasm for sports included a loyal following of the Phoenix Suns.

Survivors include his children: daughter, Sherry Shull of Arco, Idaho; son Robert (Anna) Werry of Elsinore, Utah; daughter Judy (Jim) Wolfe of Glendale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and longtime family friend Donna O'Maley of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents; and brothers, Robert and James. A celebration of Sid's life is planned this summer in Howe.
