Baseball team raises money with poker tournament

Wolverine Baseball's third annual fundraising poker tournament is set for Friday, April 2 at the Upper Big Wood River Grange Hall in Hailey. Registration opens at 7 p.m. with poker starting at 7:30 p.m. There is a $50 buy-in, with re-buys until 9:30 p.m. Also: Drinks, snacks and a raffle. You must be 21 to participate. MVPs for Outlaw League basketball

The Sun Valley Co./Power Engineers men's basketball league named its standout players for the 2009-10 winter season last week.

Most Valuable Player honors went to Stephen Vouch and Danny Sibrian of Growing Concern/SV Auto Club. Erik Lisk was MVP for Jivaro.

Other MVPs were Mike Bellamy (Sturges Productions), Luke Macdonald (Rocky Mountain Hardware), Riley O'Grady (Prof. Roofing), Gordon Cavanaugh (Wicked Spud/Thornton Heating), Cody Michael (Atkinson's), Jesus Villanueva (Coeneo), Sean Moore (Bigwood Auto/BCRD), and Wes Southward (Sutton's).

Fernando Murga, Mike Payne, David Sibrian, David Morgan, Gene Korby, Morgan Uhrig, Jace Montgomery, Antonio Hurtado, Willy Felton and Kevin Jones garnered Honorable Mention status.

Paul Zimmerman was named the league's Most Improved Player. League MVP went to Stephen Vouch.

Open basketball continues Sundays and Thursdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at The Community Campus in Hailey, for $3.

Gooding Boxing Smoker benefits high school rodeo

The 18th annual Fifth District High School Rodeo Boxing Smoker is Friday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Gooding High School gym. Proceeds support Rotary and Fifth District Rodeo scholarships. Watanabe clarification

Sun Valley snowboarder Graham Watanabe had a high finish of second place in a snowboardcross at Stoneham, Quebec, and earlier this season and compiled nine top-10 finishes on the LG FIS World Cup SBX tour. He finished third in overall standings with 2,860 points, 260 points behind runner-up Patrick Mullin of Australia. Pierre Vaultier of France (5,800) won the globe.

Carey basketball awards

Carey High School gave out its 2009-10 basketball awards during a March 23 assembly.

Boys: Trevor Peck and Brett Adamson, Co-Offensive Players of the Year; Wacey Barg, Post Player; Dillon Simpson Defensive Player; Blair Peck, Best Free Throw Shooter.

Girls: Jessica Parke, Intensity Award; Amy Ellsworth, Outstanding Post Player; Darby Northcott. "Future is Bright" Player; Micaela Adamson, Team Spirit Award; Jaide Parke, Glove Award—Outstand ing Defense.
