Two state titles for Wood River gymnasts

State gymnastics competition turned out successfully for the Wood River Gymnastics Academy, which now has two state champions for 2010.

About 22 teams with 600 gymnasts competed in the girls' finals March 19-21 at Moscow. The boys had a smaller group, 11 teams and 100 gymnasts, competing March 27 in Boise.

Wood River's Amber Park earned the title of state champion in Uneven Bars (8.950), Balance Beam (8.875), and Floor Exercise (9.050). Amber is also the All-Around Champion for Level 4, which means that she scored the highest combined score from all 4 events (36.050).

Kaiden Minnick, the first boy to compete for the Wood River Valley in at least 10 years, won the title of Level 4 state boys' vault champion in only his second meet ever.

Other top locals were:

2—Riley Boice bars. 3—Riley Boice beam and all-around; and Megan Downey vault. 4—Amber Park vault; Megan Downey bars; and Luma Randolph vault; 5—Haley Bjorkman vault and beam; Ciara Hulett beam and floor; and Lauren Cord vault and floor.

Wood River is a young club, having entered its gymnasts in competitions for only three years, but the remaining team members also did a fantastic job at the competitions.

WRGA Level 3 team athletes who competed were:

AnneMarie Deffe earned 3 blue ribbons (scores between 9.0-10.0), 1 red ribbon (scores between 8.0-8.9) and received an all-around medal. Kaegan Wherry received 2 blue ribbons, 1 red ribbon, 1 white ribbon (scores between 7.0-7.9) and received an all around medal.

WRGA Level 4 team athletes: Aubree Haynes (9-vault, 11-bars, 10-beam, 8-floor and 12-all-around); Haley Bjorkman (5-vault, 9-bars, 5-beam, 9-floor and 10-all-around); Addason Park (8-vault, 10-bars, 10-beam, 10-beam and 11-all-around); Ciarra Hulett (7-vault, 9-bars, 5-beam, 5-floor and 9-all-around); Luma Randolph (4-vault, 10- bars, 11-beam, 8-floor and 10- all-around); Megan Downey (3-vault, 4-bars, 11-beam, 9-floor and 11-all-around);

Also, Lauren Cord (5-vault, 8-bars, 8-beam, 5-floor and 8-all-around); Riley Boice (7-vault, 2-bars, 3-beam, 6-floor and 3-all-around); Ana Poklemba (7-vault, 6-bars, 10-beam, 7-floor and 9-all-around) and Amber Park (4-vault, 1-bars, 1-beam, 1-floor and 1-all-around).

Level 4 boy: Kaiden Minnick (11-floor, 10-pommel horse, 10-rings, 1-vault, 11-parallel bars, 9-high bar and 10-all-around).

Level 5 team athletes: Bella Stethem (11-vault, 11-bars, 6-beam, 7-floor and 13-all-around and Brygitte DeLaCruz (10-vault, bars, beam floor and all-around).
