The Sun Valley Center for the Art's multidisciplinary exhibition, "I Spy: Surveillance and Security," will present John Lehman at The Center in Ketchum for a lecture called "The Role of Surveillance in National Security." Lehman will speak on Thursday, April 1, at 7 p.m.

Lehman has extensive experience with national security matters. He served as a member of the 9/11 Commission in 2003--04 and continues to think about security issues as a member of the National Security Advisory Council for the Center for Security Policy and a trustee for the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Lehman also acted as an advisor to Sen. John McCain during his presidential bid in 2008 and contributes occasional essays to publications, including The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and the New York Post. He is an advisory board member of the Partnership for a Secure America, a nonprofit group that states it is dedicated to re-creating the bipartisan center in American national security and foreign policy.

During the Reagan administration, Lehman served for six years as secretary of the Navy. He was a staff member to Henry Kissinger on the National Security Council and served as delegate to the force-reductions negotiations in Vienna and as deputy director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. He is chairman of J. F. Lehman & Co., a private equity investment firm.

"John Lehman has given more thought to questions of national security and effective methods of surveillance than just about anyone else in this country," said Britt Udesen, The Center's director of education and humanities.

Tickets are $10 for Center members and $15 for non-members. To buy tickets, visit sunvalleycenter.org, call 726-9491 or stop by The Center in Ketchum.
