Spring in my head

By CHRIS MILLSPAUGH

"I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm. I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string. I'd say that I had spring fever when it ..." and so the songs of spring go round and round and the music in my head makes me want to get rid of all that lead.

Songwriters have championed the thoughts of spring for many years. The thoughts denoted rebirth, new beginnings, love and hope. Now, more than ever, we all long for a new start.

Welcome to the 85th day of the year. With 280 left to go, I suppose it's time to get the lead out and begin. "Guess I'll start it all again, you know I need you like the winter needs the spring ..." So wrote John Lennon's boy, Julian. The melodies of the season spin inside, reminding me of the chores of life awaiting.

"Winter, spring, summer or fall—all you gotta do is call ..." Oh, yeah, I've got to call the IRS and then get on Turbo Tax and ...

"Now when I remember spring, all the joys that love can bring—I will be remembering ..." Yow, I've got to remember to take out the trash today.

"Morning has broken like the ..." Damn! I've got to remember to get the driver's door latch fixed on the Spamobile.

"It's just a spring clean for the May Queen ..." Thank you, Robert Plant, I've got to clean the house this week and plant those ...

"Spring is here ... why does my heart..." Geez, I got to get a check-up at St. Luke's.

"Oh, wasn't the spring (bah-bah-bah) and spring became the summer..." Doh! I've got to plan that summer vacation.

"Little darling, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter ..." Sonava! I've got to get those snow tires off.

"I'm starry eyed and vaguely discontented like a nightingale without a song to sing. I'd say that I had spring fever, but ..." Ooooh, must remember to get Preparation H this morning.

"Fall on my face on somebody's new-mowed lawn ..." Gotta get that lawnmower fixed.

"It's a beautiful morning, ahhh, I think I'll go outside awhile ..." Better take my coat—it's March 26 and it's still cold. Gotta watch my health - hey, we've got a national health plan now and hey, on March 26, 1953, Dr. Jonas Salk announced his polio vaccine and never took a dime for it!

"It mi-i-i-i as well-ell-ell be spring ..."

Nice talking to you.
