Bike thefts reported in Ketchum

Ketchum police advised people to keep their bikes locked up because of reports of bicycle thefts.

Police Chief Steve Harkins said Monday that there have been three recent reports of bike thefts, though two were of thefts that occurred "months ago and were just reported by the victims."

"We are asking the public's help and urge them to call police if they see anything suspicious that would pertain to someone stealing a bicycle," Harkins said.

During the past several months, he said, several bicycles were stolen from car racks, and numerous others were taken off front porches where they were unlocked.

"The public should keep their bicycles and similar-type items out of sight or at least locked to a fixed object to deter or prevent theft," Harkins said.
