A 37-year-old Hailey man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday night in the Woodside area of Hailey.

Police identified the man Monday as Shane Coleman Cody Sanders. Blaine County Coroner Russell Mikel said Sanders died from a "self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head" and was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting at about 9:45 p.m.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said authorities were notified of the incident about 9:30 p.m. that night when Sanders' wife called saying she'd found a suicide note. Police were sent to the home on Flowing Wells drive near Woodside Elementary School. While in route, officers found Sanders lying partially in the street a few houses away from his home, Gunter said.

A Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but Mikel said Sanders was apparently dead by the time help arrived. Other emergency vehicles were sent to the scene to assist.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the Hailey LDS Church.

An obituary describes Sanders as a former youth baseball coach and a man who "loved sports, racing, family and friends." He leaves behind his wife and one son.

"His infectious laugh, quick wit and compassionate spirit will be greatly missed," the obituary states.
